Emily Stanton is a student with a plan, said her Principal James Calhoun as he introduced the Student of the Month to the Rotary Club of Castle Rock.
The club named Stanton as the Student of the Month for March. Stanton is a senior at Castle View High School in Castle Rock.
“She has a long term plan and a short term plan,” Calhoun said. He said she has planned where she wants to go to college and what she wants to do as a career.
He said this shows in school where her teachers call her “diligent,” “mature,” “happy” and one who gets along with her peers.
It also shows on the softball field where she was a leader and her nomination to the National Honor Society, her community service which is also a reflection of her “great character.” Stanton carries a grade point average of 3.95.
Stanton has played softball since she was seven and was co-captain when her high school team took third in the state last year. She also volunteers in a nursing home and volunteered at a high school basketball tournament.
Stanton told the club she plans to attend the University of Northern Colorado or Wyoming where she will student geriatrics working toward a career as a nurse practitioner or a doctor.
She said she developed that interest by caring for her grandfather.
“I have a heart for that generation,” she said.
