Kori Baker accepts a Student of the Month plaque from club president Rick Nelson. With Baker is her father Jon and Castle View High School Principal Rex Corr.
Kori Baker is the Student of the Month for February at the Rotary Club of Castle Rock.
Baker, a senior at Castle View High School, was described by Principal Rex Corr as a person who was a scholar, an athlete and someone who left things better than they were.
Baker was involved in soccer, basketball, track and crosscountry. In addition, she belongs to the National Honors Society, the Medical Club, Spanish Honor Society, a biotech and engineering club, and the Student Athletic Leadership team.
She has completed eight Advance Placement classes and carries a 4.056 gpa.
Corr said Baker’s teachers describe her as a standout athlete and a leader who is dedicated fully to academics and is a “super rad and fiery student.”
She also has an outstanding work ethic, gets along well with and influences others and is self-motivated.
He said Baker plans to attend the University of Colorado at Denver to study medicine and hopes to become a neurosurgeon specializing in neo-natal medicine.
Baker has a long record of community service, including volunteering at the Castle Rock Police haunted house, schools, a food bank and a health fair.
Baker told the club she spends her “free” time hanging out, working at a shopping center and at the local hospital.
Baker was asked what she though about the recent school shootings.
“Something needs to happen,” she said. “There has been a mass shooting every two-and-a-half days.”
