Leanne Lowry accepts a Student of the Month certificate from Wes Schuneman, club president, left. With her are her mother Lacy and father Chris and Castle View Principal Rex Corr.
Leanne Lowry, senior at Castle View High School, has been selected as the Rotary Student of the Month for September.
Lowry was described as the ultimate student athlete by Principal Rex Corr who introduced her to the Rotary Club of Castle Rock recently.
Lowry is a star volleyball player for the school, on the Student Athlete Leadership Team, on the LINK crew to help new students adjust, and has been in the National Honor Society for all of her high school years.
In volleyball she was a four-year varsity letter winner and is team captain. She also was first team All-Conference and first team All-State Academic team. The school won the state 5A championship in 2017.
Her achievements include being honored by the National Girls and Women in Sports Association and winning First team All-State Academic and Academic Excellence Awards.
Corr said Lowry is humble and a hard-working student who puts the student part of “Student Athlete” first.
He said she consistently shows leadership in the school and has had a significant impact on the school. She is part of the Best Buddies program and makes friends with people with intellectual and emotional disabilities.
He said Lowry has taken five Advanced Placement classes and holds a 4.093 grade point average. He said teachers call her a wonderful student who uses setbacks to fuel herself to push forward.
Lowry said she plans to attend the University of Iowa on a volleyball scholarship and study biology with an eye to becoming a doctor.
