Leigh Walden is the Rotary Club of Castle Rock’s Student of the Month for September 2020.

Leigh Walden, senior at Castle View High School, was awarded the Rotary Club of Castle Rock’s Student of the Month for September during a e-Meeting with the club on November 4.  Castle View High School Assistant Principal Amanda Malson presented the award.

Malson said although Walden was a stellar academic student, it was the other qualities that stood out for her. And although Walden will have completed about 15 Advance Placement classes by the time she finishes high school, it was her character, her passion and her spirit that her teachers bragged about.

One teacher spoke of Walden’s “level of work and passion that is incomparable.” Another said Walden’s interest outside the classroom made her a “passionate and energetic voice of her generation.” Another said she “wonders about everything and I could not imagine a class without her.” Her AP coordinator said Walden is “committed to humanity and will make things better for everyone.”

Walden is very active in her school, belonging to the speech and debate team, the Spanish Honor Society, the National Honor Society and is a National Student Voice Journalism Fellow. Her achievements include three times state qualifier in speech, national qualifier in speech, multiple awards in Girl Scouts and group representative for the Douglas County Student Advisory Group. While doing all this, Walden earned a 4.18 gpa.

Walden said she wants to major in journalism and get a minor in science so she can learn to report news and information in a non-biased way.
She has not decided where she will attend college but indicated it would be school with a strong journalism program.
