Katherine Walden selected as Student of the Month
Katherine Walden, senior at Castle View High School, as been selected as the December Student of the Month by the Rotary Club of Castle Rock.
Walden is very active in her school, the community and 4H at the local and statewide level.
A long list of activities include the National Honor Society, German Honor Society, German Club, Physics and Chemistry clubs, CVHS cross country team, Sedalia Saddle Club 4H club, American Quarter Horse Association Young Horse Development participant and the Girl Scouts.
Her list of accomplishments is almost as long, winning awards or championships in Western and English horse competitions at the local and state levels, earning a cross country varsity letter and earning Bronze and Silver awards in Girl Scouts.
She also contributed to her community by working at schools, her church, the library, the Larkspur Fire Department and the Colorado State Fair.
And while doing all this she took seven Advanced Placement classes at school on her way to accumulating a 4.1 grade point average.
Walden was introduced to the club by CVHS Principal Rex Corr. Corr said Walden’s many accomplishments are a sign of her big heart and contagious energy.
He said her teachers describe her as the “complete package” with ability, determination, a smile and a zest for life. They also lauded her self confidence, having a strong character that stays true to herself, cares for and serves others, is a wonderful student and an even better human being who is always trying to improve.
Walden told the club she is applying to attend military academies and hopes to study biomedicine and to be able to fly. She said she also is close to earning her Gold award in Girl Scouts.
