2017 Annual Ducky Derby & Street Festival
Official Race Rules and Regulations - Saturday, June 3, 2017

  1. The Rotary Ducky Derby Committee will establish the race course. Ducks will be launched into Plum Creek in the vicinity of Interstate 25 at approximately 3:00 PM. on Saturday, June 3, 2017. If circumstances require the race to be delayed or postponed, it will be rescheduled at a time and place to be determined by the Rotary Ducky Derby Committee.
  2. All ducks entered in the race will be provided by the Rotary Clubs of Castle Rock and shall remain the property of the Rotary Clubs of Castle Rock.
  3. Once the ducks are launched, no members of the public shall have contact with the ducks. No attempts to free or interfere with any duck are permitted unless deemed necessary by a Race Committee member.
  4. The race course will close 15 minutes after the first duck has crossed the finish line and/or is caught in the duck trap. Any ducks finishing after that time will not be eligible for prizes.
  5. If natural causes or other restrictions prevent the use of Plum Creek for holding the race, then the Ducky Derby Committee may institute other means to enact a race at their sole discretion.
  6. Numbers will be attached to each duck corresponding to a Ducky Derby ticket number. A cash prize will be awarded to a person or organization whose ticket number matches the number on one of the first three ducks across the finish line. An official ticket stub must confirm the name of the ticket holder and ticket number. Positive identification will be required to claim any prize won. The holder of the ticket with the number of the first place duck will win $2,000. The holder of the second place ticket number will win $750 and the holder of the third place ticket number will win $250. Additional prizes, at the discretion of the Ducky Derby committee, will be awarded to ticket holders whose ticket numbers match duck numbers for duck finishes up to 25 or more places.
  7. Entrants must be 21 years or older to win. If the person whose name is on a winning ticket stub is not 21 years old, the prize will be awarded to their parent or legal guardian.
  8. No purchase is necessary in order to enter or win. However, entrants are encouraged to make a $5 donation per Ducky Derby ticket. One free Ducky Derby ticket per person may be obtained by filling out a written request on a 3” x 5” card with name, address, email and phone number and mailed to Ducky Derby Committee, P.O. Box 1045, Castle Rock, CO 80104 and received at that address by May 25, 2017.
  9. The ticket stub portion of each Ducky Derby ticket must be completely filled out by the ticket holder and returned to the Rotarian or third party ticket seller at the time of the donation and prior to the race for a ticket to be eligible to win a prize. A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase the day of the race at the Rotary Ticket Booth located at the parking lot at 3rd and Elbert St.  Ticket sales on race day will cease approximately one hour before the race.
  10. The Ducky Derby Committee reserves the right to limit the number of Ducky Derby tickets purchased per individual or organization.
  11. Million Dollar Duck: The Rotary Clubs of Castle Rock have coordinated with a third party prize underwriter to offer the chance of winning a one million dollar prize. A “Million Dollar Ticket Number” for every 3,000 tickets sold will be selected at random prior to the race by the prize underwriter and kept in a sealed security envelope. At the conclusion of the race, a Race Committee official will consult with the underwriter to determine whether the duck that crosses the finish line first has a number that matches one of the Million Dollar Ticket Numbers. If the numbers match, then the name on the winning ticket stub wins the million dollar grand prize. If it is not a match, then the million-dollar prize will not be awarded and a $2,000 prize is awarded to the name on the first place ticket stub.
  12. The million-dollar prize, if won, is payable in forty (40) equal installments of $25,000 each year beginning in 2016, without any accrued interest.
  13. New Car Duck: The Rotary Clubs of Castle Rock have coordinated with a third party prize underwriter to offer the chance of winning a new 2016 Car. One “New Car Ticket Number” for every 3,000 tickets sold will be selected at random prior to the race by the prize underwriter and kept in a sealed security envelope. At the conclusion of the race, a Race Committee official will consult with the underwriter to determine whether the duck that crosses the finish line second has a number that matches one of the New Car Ticket Numbers. If the numbers match, then the name on the ticket stub with the New Car Ticket Number wins the 2017 Car. If it is not a match, then the 2017 Car will not be awarded and a $750 prize is awarded to the name on the second place ticket stub.
  14. Cash Prize distribution order: If the first place duck number wins the million dollar grand prize, then the $2,000 cash prize will be awarded to the second place duck number. If the second place duck wins the new CAR, then its $750 cash prize will go to the third place duck number. If the third place duck number is awarded the cash prize originally designated for the second place duck number, then its $250 cash prize will go to the fourth place duck number. The fourth and fifth place ducks will be awarded cash prizes in order originally designated for the second and third place ducks if both the million dollar grand prize and the new CAR are awarded.
  15. At the discretion of the Ducky Derby Committee, numbers up to those of the first 50 ducks to cross the finish line will be posted on a Winners Board at the Ducky Derby Street Festival following the race. At the discretion of the Ducky Derby Committee, such winning numbers, excluding those that win cash prizes as described herein, will be eligible for prizes. Such numbers will also be posted on the Ducky Derby website. The Ducky Derby Committee will maintain a list of prizes and reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to substitute prizes of comparable value.
  16. Prize winners need not be present to win. Winners will be notified by telephone. If any prize winner does not claim their prize by July 15, 2017, the Ducky Derby Committee will donate the prize to a charitable organization.
  17. Each winner has sole responsibility for paying any and all taxes and similar fees on any prize(s) won and must authorize the deduction of such taxes, if any, from the prize(s) to the extent required by law.
  18. Names and likenesses of prize-winners may be used by the Rotary Club of Castle Rock, Castle Rock High Noon Rotary, Castle Pines Rotary, Medved Autoplex, and their designee(s) for promotional purposes without further compensation.
  19. Club members, their spouses, and resident family members are eligible to win all prizes.
  20. By entering, entrants release the Rotary Clubs of Castle Rock, Castle Rock High Noon, and Castle Pines and their officers, directors, and staff and other related entities from any and all liability with respect to prizes, the race, and the Street Festival.
  21. Chances of winning depend on the total number of qualified entries.
  22. The Ducky Derby Committee will make all decisions about and interpretations of these Rules and Regulations and their judgment is final.
  23. Any provision contained herein which is in conflict with any applicable law, ordinance or regulation shall be deemed omitted and the remainder of the document shall remain in full force and effect.
