Gavin Wagner accepts a Student of the Month plaque from Club President Jerry Lionetti. With him are Assistant Principal Ryan Hollingshead, left, and Wagner’s mother Jennifer.
Gavin Wagner, senior at Castle View High School has been selected as the April Student of the Month by the Rotary Club of Castle Rock.

Wagner is active in many of the aspects of life at CVHS, in sports, student leadership, academic honors and community service.

He is in the National Honors Society, a member of the National Society of High School Scholars, a member of the LINK Crew, and has participated in baseball, soccer, tennis and volleyball. In addition, he was selected as the MVP in soccer in 2014, was a NHS officer and has won an Outstanding Leadership Award in the NSHSS. Wagner’s community service involved work with youth sports, working at a hospital and working with the LINK crew helping to orient younger students.

Ryan Hollingshead, assistant principal at CVHS, introduced Wagner to the club. He said Wagner’s participation in all aspects of school life, and his academic achievements, make him an exceptional student and leader.

Wagner’s teachers describe him as a “learner,” Hollingshead said, one who is not afraid to fail and seeks to figure out how things work. He was eager to accept all assignments with a questioned-filled mind and ready to reset and move ahead to find the answers.

One of his teachers said Wagner never backed down from a challenge. Another said he reminded him of why he became a teacher.

Wagner said he plans to attend Northern Arizona University to study computer science. He said high school has been a life-changing experience, going from a shy freshman to someone who looks forward to challenges and taking leadership roles.
