Ride to End Polio
Team Rotary Club of Castle Rock traveled to Tucson, Arizona for the third year to participate in the Ride to End Polio/El Tour de Tucson, on November 19, 2022. This is the largest single-day fundraiser for Polio Eradication. Recently, Team Rotary Club of Castle Rock raised $18,657 (including a 2:1 match from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation).
Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. We've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan, but new cases have been identified recently in polio-free countries. Although there is no cure for polio, until it is eradicated worldwide, it can be prevented with a vaccine. Without vaccines, polio is only a plane ride away. If all vaccination efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.
